MYSSAN IN THE HISTORY

 

Missan is  one of Iraqi cities .It lies  in the east of Iraq near  Iran  border . Amarah is the center of the city  which is located at the Tigris river .Al –Majer Alkabeer is the largest sub –district .Before 1976 ,it was called Amarih . It's name changed to missan after that  year .

It was petty – country, lies in the  south of Babylon in (311 B .C to 224 B .C ) . It was

under the protection of Seleucids . It became an  independent state when the Seleucids became weak in( 223 to187 B .C ) .It became a very important country in politics and economic . Twenty –three kings ruled it about 350 years . Its name in the Aramaic language means ( marsh's water)

 

It contains the holly shrine of the prophet Al –Auzai .It is sacred for Muslims and Jews in addition to  the tiny shrine of Al – shiref Abid Allah Ibn –Ali Ibn Abi Taleb  .

Muslims conquered it during the reign of the second Caliph Omer Ibn Al –Khatab . At that time the leader was  Utba –Ibn Ghazwan .It was named Al  Amarah after the  ruler Amarih Ibn Al –Hamzeh whom the second Abbasid Caliph Abo –Jaifer Al –Mansoor  appointed. It was called by this name in a large number of historical books .

The ancient Ottoman ruler Mahmed Namik Basha ( 1861  to1867 ) built a camp on the left bank of the Tigris river . .It was called Aurdi .The camp was enlarged to be a large city .It was  called Amarah .The Ottoman government officially ordered that  Amarah should be a sub –district .That was in 1861 . .

That government appointed Abid –Al-Kader Al –Kolmendi to be the Mayor.  . Amaraih was joined with Basrah .Amarih  seems a very beautiful city, when we looked at it from the ship.  Amarih covered a number of  allies such as ,

 Al –Sariah ,it was named by this name after the ruler Siri Basha who  reigned Amarah  built it in (8971  to-1874  .

Al_seray , it was named by this name  because its location is beside the government house which is called Seray in Turkish language .It is linked with Al -Sariah ally at the north side near Tigris river .

Al -Mahmodya ,it was named by this name because its  location in the orchard of Al –Haj Mahmood Al –Defaie. .

Al Saboonichya , its location is on the right bank of the Tigris river .It was named by this name  because there  was a soap factory in it .

Al –Shibaneh ,it's location is on the right bank of Tigris river .It was named by this name  because the Ottomans camp army was in it .

Al –Dibesat , it is  located on the left bank of the Al –Mushereh river

Orchard ,Auasha and Jideh , it was a large plantation where only seven mansions were built  for the rich.
